OREX™ Testimonies from the Field

This first comment is from a Radwaste Manager…
A discussion of OREX started today at the RP Supervisor turnover meeting. An
unsolicited comment from one of the RP supervisors was "OREX is a success story and
has saved us and workers untold time and frustration with the reduced number of
contaminations". One Supervisor said he has had several workers come up to him and
give positive feedback on OREX. One employee told a supervisor he thought OREX was
the best thing RP has done for this site. I was actually caught off-guard at the turnover
meeting from how positive the RP Supervisors were concerning OREX. I knew it was
working good, but they were VERY happy."

Here's another comment from a Radwaste Supervisor...
" We are really satisfied with OREX. It has been working out well. The only problem I have
is that we are using many more PCs this outage than last outage due to some major
emergent work so we have been scrambling to get some more in.”
“ We have been using OREX in the cavity, on the refuel floor, in the drywell, and in the RHR
rooms. A major emergent scope addition this outage has been a lot of work in our RHR A
room. This work has involved pipe replacement and valve replacements including an 18"
valve that was 500,000 dpm/100cm2 inside after decon. This is one of those valves where
people have to climb in 5 feet to reach the bottom. Even with these type of activities we are
reducing the number of personnel contaminations.”
“ I was concerned that people would be using our standard cloth PCs and we would run
out of them before the end of the outage. That has not been happening. Pretty much
everyone is choosing to use OREX.”

Here's a comment from a Drywell supervisor…
" We are using your PCs for the first time in the drywell and they are getting rave reviews! I
know you have heard it all before, but the workers are saying they are much more
comfortable."

This comment is from an HP manager…
" We just completed a CRDM cooler fan motor replacement in the containment building at
power. Used OREX exclusively with rave results. Workers are talking about them even
today. We focused on heat stress reduction vs contamination control. No percons and no
heat stress issues. The OREX (along with a few other initiatives) allowed longer stay times
and shorted recovery periods. It will be hard to go back to the cotton PCs."

From a Decon Foreman…
“ I just got out of our spray booth from deconning Nozzle Dams (250k->1e6) and we are
using up all the Orex rags and mops and we LOVE them. They are easier to use, absorb
more and faster. Then the beauty of all of it is we let them dry and throw them in with the
PC's.”
“ The OREX's here are going into the close out of our outage and finishing very strong.
Most of the people I talk to are liking them very well.”
“ I can also tell you that the walls (OREX roll sheeting)are here to stay! We like the _ell out
of them! They are very durable, easy to install, look real nice and light to carry that whole
roll around. We have been using it wherever we can. I see absolutely no reason why we
will not continue to use it. GOOD STUFF!”

From an HP Supervisor…
“ So far it (OREX) has been excellent. I have gotten several compliments about its ease of
use for the workers. Much less work for us too!”

“ We are requiring the use of OREX bags and sheeting around the particle control zone. We
are trying to avoid the potential transport of particles that could attach to plastic that has
developed a static charge. Maybe something you would want to share with other users.
We had to stop our operators from wearing the OREX coveralls on their rounds. We have
a couple of small leakers that are creating just enough gaseous activity to cause about a
30 minute decay time when exiting the RCA. It didn't take the operators long to realize that
wearing the coveralls got them out quicker. This (OREX) PVA stuff is a regular HP Swiss
Army knife.”

This comment is from a nuclear plant Site VP:
" Use of OREX protective clothing has reduced cross contamination PCE's."

This is a comment from a Dosimetry Supervisor (regarding OREX Multiple Dosimetry Coveralls):
" They are better than any multibadge suit or vest that I have ever seen. The workers love
them - reduces that layer of the multibadge vest, and they get out of the PC's quicker
because they aren't trying to get all of that tape off anymore while they are hot, sweaty and
thirsty. We used to use tape on the wrists and ankles and commonly we ran out of vests
and then had to tape everything.
At the beginning, we were just happy not to have to deal with the old vests and all of that
nasty tangled velcro mess, but it grew from there. There is a great savings all around, I
think on our part, and on the part of the worker."

This is a comment from a plant Radiation Protection Manager.
“ We are almost exclusively using OREX. The only exception is some high
temperature work where the workers believe that cotton provides some more
protection from direct contact with hot pipes. This is only during
shutdown and startup walkdowns.
We have had a lot of success with only 13 PCEs to date and this is day 13
of the outage.”

This is a comment from a Site Facilities Supervisor:
“ We are in Mode 5 expecting to hit mode 4 Thursday, the OREX has been a
complete success, Thank you for all your support.”

This is a comment from a Radiation Protection Supervisor:
“ Everybody at our outage likes those new style modesties. They say they are smoother
on their skin. Please share this with everybody at ETI.”
